Another verse that people use to condone Sunday worship is Acts 20:7. let us read:
Acts 20:7 — On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.
Just because the disciples met to break bread on the first day of the week it automatically makes OK to worship on Sundays? Then with that same logic, if my friends and I decide to meet at a bakery on a Sunday to eat, does it mean that we are holding a church service?
There are over 100 verses in the Bible that command people to keep the Sabbath day, but Sunday worshipers find ONE verse that shows in someway their doctrine is OK and they hold on to it.
If you understand that passage correctly, the disciples met together to celebrate the feast of the Firstfruits which comes after the feast of unleavened bread, but before the feast of Pentecost. Let me explain.
The feast of the Firstfruits is on the first Sunday after the feast of Unleavened bread (Leviticus 23:10-14). This feast is before the feast of Weeks(Pentecost in the new testament).
Acts 20:5 — These men went on ahead and waited for us a Troas. But we sailed from Philippi after the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days.
Acts 20:7 — On the first day of the week we came together to break bread…
Acts 20:16 — Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, for he was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, if possible, by the day of Pentecost.
The only Feast in the Bible kept after the Unleavened Bread but before the Pentecost is the feast of the Firstfruits.
Now some skeptics have said: “…That means this first day gathering was about 12 days after the Feast of Unleavened Bread — much too long to be the Day of Firstfruits. It was a regular Sunday.”
The reason they say this is because in Acts 20: 5 it says: “...and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days.” They add the 5 and the 7 to make it 12 days. But if you read correctly, they stayed in Troas seven days, and on the fifth day of that seven day stay they met the others.
Please do not let yourself be deceived by Anti Church of God statements. The World Mission Society Church of God keeps the feasts of God according to the example of Christ and the Early Church Christians.
Do not be quick to believe these so called “Biblical answers about the World Mission Society Church of God…” . All they are doing is misinterpreting the Scriptures.
